Happy Tuesday, bitches! Welcome back, and welcome to the new official day that GMB will be regularly be dropping in your inbox! I started this newsletter about three years ago now, when a email that lovingly greeted three friends with “good morning bitches” eventually grew its own small but mighty cult following. I love writing it and it means the world to know that people genuinely look forward to getting an email in 2021!!!
It’s always been in the back of my mind that I wanted to make this thing a bit more “legit”, but between taking care of my mom and starting my career, I didn’t have the time nor energy to give it the attention I wanted to. Until a pandemic happened and my job suddenly got exponentially less stressful, that is! Naturally, I turned to someone who has previously been featured on good morning bitches and is VERY much a GMB herself, Cat Reifschneider aka @catdrawingthings 😍
I gave her essentially no guidance and yet she delivered exactly the kind of branding I was looking for. I would love to dive deep into her design process on a mini-bitch someday soon *writes that down in the notes app* but for now, I’m just going to show you a slice of her work, as seen on the new GMB Instagram:
For the record, this was supposed to be the “special announcement” but then I got antsy and just put it all up last week instead of waiting for today. Join me over @goodmorning.bitches for all of the content I can’t squeeze into the main newsletter and, as always, frequent reminders that you can find the #linkinbio.
headline of the week:
My breakdown analysis of this perfect string of words:
I just need to get something off my chest about this:
Look, not to make the birth of a royal(ish) baby about me, but between dogs, current toddlers, and the barrage of babies now destined to be named Lil(y)(i)(ly)(lie) in the next 3 years, my name……….is officially cliché. While the UK debates whether or not it was rude for them to name the baby after Queen Liz, I join the ranks of those whose names were also thrust into the modern royal spotlight and raise a glass to everyone over the age of 8 named George, Louis, or Charlotte (the Archibalds out there are probably still safe tbh.)
If you’re wondering where Lilibet came from:
The origins of the name are in the Queen's childhood, when she was unable to pronounce the name 'Elizabeth'. Instead, her grandfather, King George V, started to call her 'Lilibet' imitating her way of saying her name.
(Okay, it’s pretty hard to be cynical after reading that, but I am willing to rise to the occasion.)
sherry, niles?
If you're new around here, iconic 90s sitcom Frasier is required watching for any good morning bitch. The news of a potential Frasier reboot absolutely rocked GMB like, two years ago. (Currently the only star who has confirmed to return for the reboot on Paramount+ is Kelsey Grammer himself, which honestly is the most on-brand situation for Frasier Crane to find himself in.)
Anyway, there isn’t any update on the return of Seattle’s favorite radio psychiatrist, I just needed an excuse to share this haunting image:
(Okay this next segue is about to be a STRETCH but stick with me)
speaking of frasier…
One of Frasier’s best/worst love interests was Lana, played by the flawless Jean Smart. You might recognize her from the much needed comedic relief she provided in Mare of Easttown….
Well our girl Jean has RANGE, bitches!!! While all of us were trying to solve crime from our couch in Easttown, Jean Smart was casually the star of yet another HBO Max show, Hacks.
The premise: veteran comedian’s material is showing her age. Young comedy writer recently got #canceled over a tweet and can’t find work. They can’t stand each other, but their careers need each other.
I was very wary of the boomer versus millennial dynamic, but my God these two women DELIVER.
The millennial in question is Ava, played by standup comic Hannah Einbinder. Watching her is like watching that really funny girl at work whose fast quips and hilariously cruel insults you can’t help but envy. Also, her physical comedy and facial expressions are *chefs kiss*
It is SO. REFRESHING. to see a woman-centric comedy that 1. is truly funny, and 2. isn’t directly about women proving themselves to men. 10/10 recommend. Come for the comedy, stay for the 30-minute episodes you can binge before Thursday’s season finale.
WAIT I FORGOT ONE MORE THING ABOUT FRASIER
Jean Smart ain’t the only Crane Boys love interest on the Hacks screen!
(Okay I’m done)
(For now)
this week on twitter:
Ain’t that the truth ^^^
Okay I’m officially at the data limit 😩
Until next time,
xo,
Lily
